Huge fan!

First time we thought to have some chickens was because we wanted fresh eggs every morning.. We selected a small breed called "Mugginese or Mugellese". Soon we realised how funny and entertaining they are, but most important how smart and fast learners!

Soon they became part of the family.. and like every family, we wanted to make it bigger 😍

We started with two girls and after about 6 months we decided to have two more girls. But one of them turned out to be a boy!! So we learned how to deal with a rooster and we also understood how important is to have one in your flock! Moreover, like most of domestic animals, boys are much more friendly and sweater than girls😊

Of course one thing leads to an other... and we decided to have more chickens!! So, at the moment we have 7 girls and 2 boys - Mugellese, Cochin, Dwarf Cochin, Nagasaki Japanese Bantam - (2 of them born from our chickens). We have chickens since early 2016 and we have lots of experience and interesting stories and facts about them.

The purpose of this blog is to help you with your chicken`s adventure and to answer all the questions you might have. We will be uploading videos, pictures and curiosity every week!

CURIOSITY

Girls need a boy or the stronger chicken will become one

We didn`t have a boy when we started our adventure.. only two girls. One day the one with a stronger character (Ginger) started to sing in the morning! She turned into a boy because the group needed a leader. So she stopped making eggs, started singing in the morning, defending the territory from other birds and making sure the other girl was going to bed alright! 😊 Our suggestion is to have always a boy, so you`ll chickens will be more tranquil and none of them will turn into one! FYI after we introduced a rooster, Ginger when back to normal 😍

FIGHT BETWEEN RODEO AND FLUFFY

Dad and son fighting

Today Rodeo (our Mugellese Rooster) fought with his dad Fluffy (our Cochin Rooster) for the dominance of the flock.

Rodeo is almost 1 year old (very mature) and this is also the most stressful period of the year for Roosters. January is the moth of love for them, so a lots of hormons in the air! Apparently Rodeo won on his dad (the fight wasn`t too violent and they bled only a tiny bit as you can see from the picture of Rodeo).

Since the big morning fight, they have been very nervous, so I decided to calm my super hormonal rooster Rodeo and take him inside with me for a little while.

Now they all seems calm.. and maybe peace will be restored, even if now the dominant rooster is not longer Fluffy.

I am aspecting in the next few days a lot of fighting especially for the pecking order and the new division of the gilrs in the flock. Will keep you update!
